When it comes to manufacturing automotive components, finding the right aluminium primary foundry alloy (PFA) is crucial. With advancements in technology, there are now a wide range of PFA options available, each designed to meet specific needs. From aluminium PFAs with superior machinability to high-strength alloys for lightweight automotive designs, the potential of primary foundry alloy is being unlocked like never before. These alloys can withstand high temperatures and resist corrosion, ensuring that automotive components made with PFAs can perform reliably under demanding conditions.
Primary Foundry Alloy (PFA) is a metal mixture used in casting processes to create parts and components. Vedanta produces several types of PFA, including 10kg ingots, 10kg cast bars, and 22kg ingots, with our PFA primarily serving the automotive industry. As part of our alloy ingot portfolio, we also manufacture Cylinder-Head Alloy, a crucial material for making cylinder heads and other automotive components. Our Cylinder-Head Alloy is designed to help automakers improve the efficiency of internal combustion engines, enhancing performance and meeting BS-VI and CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards for better emission control.
Vedanta’s manufacturing facilities are in Korba and Jharsuguda, with a current annual production capacity of 102,000 tons. We are excited to announce that in the upcoming year, we will be increasing our production capacity to 200,000 tons per year.
Vedanta’s PFA facility comprises state-of-the-art casting lines supplied by Remetal Befesa (Spain) and Properzi (Italy), equipped with associated in-line metal treatment facilities consisting of degassing and metal filtration unit and vertical chill casting technology. Our in-house laboratory is equipped with spectrometers and other allied quality assessment facilities to ensure that all our products meet the specified chemical, physical, surface and static quality requirements. Our IATF and BIS certified aluminum PFA includes both modified and unmodified alloys suitable for high-pressure, low-pressure, and gravity die casting.
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in the production of primary foundry alloys. As a leading supplier, Vedanta understands the need for eco-friendly practices and has integrated several sustainability initiatives into our manufacturing operations. We are proud to be ranked among the top 2 global leaders in sustainability within the aluminum industry, achieving an outstanding score of 77 in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) for FY’24. We are committed to reaching a net-zero goal by 2050 or sooner.
